| CAD/CAM Processing: |

|
The use of CNC machines is no
witchcraft - assuming the software and control are adapted
to the user's requirements.
Computer-controlled
design and production with CAD/CAM has been no stranger
to the natural stone industry for a long time - it is
used to produce multi-piece kitchen worktops with drip
channels, likewise richly decorated capitals. The computer
is even on the advance in the preservation field, where
it is used to scan damaged parts by laser, so that the
new additions can be reproduced exatly to fit the broken
surfaces of the original part. |

Besides
multi-axis machining centres and wire saws, more and
more bridge saws are equipped with computer controls
and integrated into the digitally controlled workflow.
The standard among the design programs is AutoCAD. Special
programs tailored to the requirements of the natural
stone industry are easier to use and there are also
special programs for the growing kitchen market. Every
manufacturer of these follows his own philosophy, either
by basing it on drawings previously designed in AutoCAD
or by integrating a simplified drawing program into
his software. This can be an advantage especially for
users with no knowledge of CAD.
Which
CAD/CAM program is recommended for the respective user
depends on the user's training level and also on his
requirements. According to the application, it may also
be advisable to use a complete system, as offered by
machines from the larger machinery manufacturers. (Stone
Report, February 2005) |
