GS initiative targets to establish industry specific codes of conduct and employ worksite monitoring to increase good labor and environmental practices in global supply chains in the natural stone industry.

However, GSI is rather unique in the sense that rather than punishing the suppliers for the unsound practices currently employed, it encourages and promotes continuous improvement in both commercial and social concerns of the natural stone industry by continuous recording, inspection, evaluation and communication of its goals. GS will employ both social and economic measures to ensure suppliers strive to improve their current unsound practices.
